HEALTH & SAFETY
From the outset TecTies philosophy has been to address the design failings of cavity wall ties which have resulted in serious Health and Safety issues on building sites.
There have been many reports in the media highlighting the dangers, which are predominantly severe lacerations suffered by bricklayers whilst handling the ties and injuries caused by the open ends of the ties in situ. The safety issues date back to the old BS 1243 Fishtail Ties which had razor sharp edges and this problem continued with the new Type 1 ties formed from thin stainless steel strip.
We did our own market research by visiting building sites across the country, and the results supported the statistics from Accident and Emergency submissions relating to injuries sustained in the construction industry. Here are some of the comments we heard from bricklayers:-
“My mate nearly lost his eye on those open ended ties”
“I had to have stitches on a wound handling those ties”
“I am sick of tearing my shirt on those wall ties”
“A lad I know had to have stitches in his side after walking into a strip tie protruding from a partially built wall”
To eliminate these dangers TecTies have designed the unique “tangle free” range - arguably the safest cavity wall ties on the market. The flagship of the range is the TT1 Turbo Heavy Duty Tie - the only Type 1 Tie manufactured in round wire. This tie has no sharp edges and closed ends removing the dangers still associated with other type1 ties. Also in the range are the TT2 General Purpose and TT4 Housing Ties designed with crossed and closed ends which removes the danger of personal injury and entanglement with clothing common with the other open ended ties on the market.
Site operatives should be aware that during work in progress on site ties protruding from a wall can cause injury therefore Health and Safety rules must be observed.
